BANG!

How to play BANG!

1. Roles. Everyone is dealt a secret role; only the Sheriff’s is face up. At 4 players: the Sheriff, a Renegade and 2 Outlaws. At 5, add a Deputy; at 6, a third Outlaw; at 7, a second Deputy. The Outlaws want the Sheriff dead. The Sheriff and the Deputies want every Outlaw and the Renegade gone. The Renegade wants to be the last one standing.
2. Characters. Everyone also plays a character with an ability and a number of life points — the bullets on the card. The Sheriff has one more. Your life points are also how many cards you may keep at the end of your turn. Point at or tap a character’s name to read the ability.
3. Your turn. First, any Dynamite and then any Jail in front of you is checked. Then draw two cards; play as many cards as you like — but only one BANG!; and finally discard down to your life points. Play passes clockwise, to your left.
4. Distance. The distance to a player is the number of places between you, the shorter way round, counting only players still in the game. A Mustang makes you one further away for everyone else; a Scope brings everyone one closer to you. Your gun is the Colt .45, range 1, until you put a weapon in play — Schofield 2, Remington 3, Rev. Carabine 4, Winchester 5, or the Volcanic, range 1 but any number of BANG!s. One weapon at a time.
5. Shooting. A BANG! hits a player your weapon reaches; they lose a life point unless they play a Missed!. The Gatling shoots everyone else at once. The Indians! make everyone else discard a BANG! or lose a life point; in a Duel, two players take turns discarding BANG!s until one cannot.
6. Other brown cards are played and discarded: Beer (+1 life), Saloon (+1 life for everyone), Stagecoach (draw 2), Wells Fargo (draw 3), General Store (one card each, from cards turned up), Panic! (take a card from a player at distance 1), Cat Balou (make anyone discard a card).
7. Blue cards stay in front of you: Barrel, Mustang, Scope, the weapons, Dynamite — and Jail, which goes in front of anyone but the Sheriff. Never two cards of the same name.
8. “Draw!” means turning the top card of the deck and reading its suit and value. Barrel: a Heart and the BANG! misses. Jail: a Heart and you escape and play your turn; otherwise you skip it. Dynamite: Spades 2 to 9 and it explodes for 3 life points; otherwise it passes to your left.
9. Elimination. At 0 life points you are out — unless you drink a Beer on the spot, which does nothing once only two players are left. Your role is turned face up. Whoever eliminates an Outlaw draws 3 cards; a Sheriff who eliminates a Deputy discards every card in hand and in play.
10. Winning. The Sheriff and the Deputies win when every Outlaw and the Renegade are gone. The Outlaws win when the Sheriff falls — even if they are all dead by then. The Renegade wins only by being the last one alive: if the Sheriff falls while anyone else is still in, the Outlaws win.
11. Talk. Bluff, accuse and plead in the chat. Point at or tap anything at the table to see what it means; the log keeps every shot.
